Philanthropy Spotlight: Earlier.org

When I learned that I would be writing a post about a philanthropy, I knew immediately which one I wanted to share.  Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test is the only organization that is dedicated only to research about earlier breast cancer detection.  As of now, breast cancer can only be detected after it is in the body for five to eight years.  Needless to say, this is a huge problem.  By developing an earlier way to detect breast cancer, lives can be saved.  Breast cancer, actually any cancer, does not discriminate against who it will affect.  It's extremely common, it's deadly, and it needs to be treated early.
Martha Kaley, the founder of Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test, is a sister of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  In fact, she is a sister of my chapter at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  It's an amazing feeling to support women everywhere, but it makes me so proud that we are supporting such a wonderful sister.  We support this philanthropy by hosting a 5K, the Tar Heel Trot, every fall during family weekend at Chapel Hill.  In addition, we have a "Kappasta" dinner each year as well.  This year we raised over $14,000 for the organization, and I know we will raise even more next year.

If you would like to get involved with this philanthropy please check out their website Earlier.org!
